None of my expectations were met, in fact they all fell short. There are a lot of issues I have with the gameplay of SkateBIRD, much of it was the expectations I had for it due to how far current or previous skateboarding games have pushed the genre and made a once revolutionary idea common place. It’s actually quite commendable how much work Glass Bottom Games have put into incorporating so many different birds I never knew of. Unfortunately, what customization has in quantity, it lacks in quality. Perhaps you want to play as a cockatiel with a top hat, sunglasses, and grey scarf? Or maybe a Sharp-shinned Hawk with a sleeping cap on its head wearing stunner shades, and a bowtie? There are tons of possibilities, with a wide array of birds, hats, capes, glasses, and skateboard options that allow you to style your bird however you want. While you aren’t doing missions, there are collectibles around the map that unlock accessories which lead us to the surprisingly extensive character editor.Īt any time during your play session, you can pause the game and change how your bird looks. In fact, a lot of missions devolve into ‘Do X trick at this location’, so you’ll be doing a lot of the same tricks just at different spots of the map. There are a lot of missions in a single skate park, and for the most part they aren’t very unique other than the context given. Sometimes it’s trying to collect the trash around the human friends’ room or rack up a lot of points doing tricks. That is the adventure mode in a nutshell, each skate park has missions that progress the story. The adventure takes you across multiple ‘skate parks’, which just happen to be average day rooms or rooftops that happen to have ramps and grind rails made of everyday objects. You start as a bird trying to make your human friend happier but quickly learn of the problems plaguing him and start working to help him. However, what I played was a far cry from that, in fact I’d go to say it disappointed me in almost every way.Īside from its premise, what is SkateBIRD really about? Well, you play as a skateboarding bird living with your skateboarding bird friends in a house owned by your ‘big human friend’. SkateBird’s almost what you’d expect with a creative title like that, a skateboarding game except instead of people you play as a bird. It themes itself entirely around that gimmick and never let’s go. I thought I’d be going into a fun romp filled with unique challenges surrounding the concept of being a bird on a skateboard. Glass Bottom Games, if you’ve never heard of them, are the creators of Spartan Fist and Hot Tin Roof: The Cat That Wore a Fedora. You can equip this from the customization option in the menu. It’s been a while since I played EA’s Skate series, so I was excited to see a new skateboarding game from indie developer Glass Bottom Games, the subject of today’s review, SkateBIRD. Once you grab the golden skateboard, you’ll see a notification on-screen telling you that you’ve unlocked the Getting Physical skateboard for your bird. If you don’t get this right, you’ll have to reset and line yourself up for another jump. Once you’re inside, you need to Olli again to grab the golden skateboard. Once you’re lined up, skate towards the gap and Olli into it. To grab this item, you need to line your bird up with the lowest point of that triangle perfectly. This forms a triangle, and if you look inside that triangle, you’ll see a golden skateboard. You need to make your way to the ground floor and find where the two boxes are leaning against each other underneath the chair. The Getting Physical skateboard is unlocked by collecting the golden skateboard in the first area of Skatebird. How to unlock the Getting Physical skateboard Screenshot by Gamepur This guide covers how to find a new skateboard in the game called Getting Physical. Some of these are cosmetic items for your bird, others are new tracks to listen to, and there are even new skateboards and parts for your skateboard to find. Skatebird has a lot of collectibles for players to find hidden around each of the main areas.
